We at Offshore Spars are proud to have played a pivotal role in the creation of the magnificent 68-ft CIRRUS, a project led by Stephens Waring Yacht Design and expertly built by James Betts Enterprises Inc. CIRRUS represents a harmonious blend of classic aesthetics from the 1940s and 50s with cutting-edge modern performance capabilities—a true testament to the seamless integration of tradition and innovation.
At Offshore Spars, our expertise in high-performance composite spars and rigging was instrumental in bringing CIRRUS to life. We manufactured both the carbon mast and furling boom, utilizing standard modulus pre-preg carbon fiber to strike the perfect balance between strength, weight savings, and durability. Ideal for a yacht designed to deliver both performance and cruising comfort.
Beyond the spars, we also supplied the yacht’s complete standing and running rigging package. CIRRUS elected for Future Fibres ECthree laterals, Kevlar backstay, and Nitronic 50 rod headstay for a Reckman hydraulic furler. The standing rigging, carefully engineered for optimal load distribution and reliability, supports the mast under high-performance sailing conditions while maintaining a lightweight and streamlined design.Cyclops Marine load sensors were also incorporated into the backstay and headstay units for real time loading feedback For the running rigging, we selected high-tech, low-stretch materials to enhance sail control and efficiency, ensuring CIRRUS responds effortlessly to every trim adjustment.
By integrating advanced composites and precision engineering, our contribution to CIRRUS reflects our commitment to delivering high-performance solutions that enhance speed, efficiency, and longevity on the water.
Designed by Stephens Waring Yacht Design and built by James Betts Enterprises Inc., CIRRUS boasts a design that echoes the grace of yachts from yesteryears, featuring a plumb stem, a spoon-shaped bow, and a distinctive counter stern. Beneath its timeless exterior, modern construction techniques come to the fore, with a lightweight cored carbon hull and deck that ensure both robustness and agility on the water. This combination not only enhances performance akin to racing vessels but also accommodates luxurious amenities like teak decks and state-of-the-art comforts such as a washer/dryer and full air conditioning.
Central to CIRRUS' performance and elegance is its carbon mast, boom, and rigging, crafted by Offshore Spars. These components not only provide unparalleled stability and durability but also elevate the yacht's performance, maximizing both speed and comfort for its discerning owners. The integration of standard-modulus fibers and advanced construction methods underscores our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in marine engineering.
At Offshore Spars, we are honored to have contributed our expertise to the creation of CIRRUS, setting a new standard for the intersection of classic design and modern performance in yachting. Join us in celebrating this achievement and explore the journey of craftsmanship and innovation that defines every aspect of CIRRUS.
